HEAVY WEIGHT HOLDING BODY
In Heavy Weight Holding Body, a site-specific dance performance, Karol Tyminski cruises the city, exploring the intimate affinity between a human being and the surrounding architecture, rendering visible the latent erotism and its pulsations. His dance is a perpetual negotiation between one’s own desires and what is welcomed in public spaces. At the risk of being exposed, he moves on the brink of culturally imposed norms in a cross-matter sexual encounter. As the dance unfolds, Tyminski not only perverts the dominant understanding of sexuality and its presence in the public sphere but also leads the audience towards the experience of the vibrancy of urban structures. Unsuspecting passersby temporarily join the choreography, while the audience looks on as voyeurs from a distance that keeps them hidden in plain sight, listening simultaneously to the voice of Tyminski that reaches them through headphones - creating complicity, a secret alliance into a parallel state
